This morning the Councillor for Education, Employment and Professional Training, Giovanna Pentenero, welcomed to the Col of Sestriere the students from the Piedmonts schools, who joined in the new project “Week of Sport”. The initiative, resulting from the cooperation between Region Piedmont, Arpiet (the Piedmonts regional association of cable transport operator companies) and the main skiing resorts in Piedmont, enabled thousands of young people to get to know the snow world.
To welcome the students together with Councillor Pentenero, also Valter Marin, President of the “Unione Montana Comuni Olimpici Via Lattea”, Giampiero Orleoni, Presidente of Arpiet, and Giovanno Brasso, President of Sestrieres SpA, who voiced their satisfaction for this project, made possible by the synergic work of institutions, schools, cable transport operator companies and the whole mountain area.
“Thank to this week of sport – stated Pentenero - promoted by the regional Education department, together with the Tourism and Sport ones, and aiming at fostering winter tourism and the theoretical and practical activities associated with sport and wellness, we enabled many young people, who never skied before, to spend a day on the skiing courses or enjoy other sports at school. It deals with an experiment, that we hope to be able to repeat next year, overcoming any criticality the schools might highlight. The synergy created between school system, sport world and winter tourism is an important result for a project that focused on different needs”.
Also Orleoni, Presidente of Arpiet, expressed his satisfaction: “It is a great result, many young people joined in and the teachers like the initiative, also the one associated with alpine rescue featuring demonstrations with avalanche rescue dogs, to raise awareness among the students in term of safety in the mountains. Sure it is an experience that we wish to repeat.”
