Sunday March 19th the 36th Uovo d’Oro Audi took place on the courses of the Vialattea. The joy and happiness of the over 1,500 athletes coming from all over Italy and abroad made once more special this traditional event, that year after year, is increasingly charming, also thank to the prestigious partner that titled the event for the second consecutive year. Among the foreign nations at the starting area France, Spain and Poland.
A gorgeous and unique glance on the Alpette’s courses in Sestriere: 5 adjoining tracks, where athletes could race simultaneously, a huge finish parterre to welcome them and a sponsor village with cheerful and colourful stands to entertain the competitors and the audience flocking to attend the event. At the end of the race all participants received a rich gift pack with many gadgets and, of course, the traditional Balocco chocolate egg.
It was sure exciting for the alpine skiing young athletes to be side by side with Giovanni Borsotti, our National team athlete, who kindly signed autographs and took pictures with the guys at the Snowlicious Audi, as it has been a unique experience for cross-country skiers receiving the prize by the award-winning champion Stefania Belmondo in Pragelato, hosting the Nordic skiing races.
Regional Councillor Giovanni Maria Ferraris attended the event, thus confirming how important it is, as well as that sport and snow are among the priorities of the institutions he represents. Also the FISI President, Flavio Roda, took part to the event and followed the races of these future young champions on the field, thus letting them experience a World Cup like atmosphere. Speaking about World Cup, during the prizegiving ceremony President Roda made official that FISI proposed Sestriere to FIS for the organization of two World Cup races December 14th and 15th 2019 (women’s giant and slalom).
In the afternoon the cheerful parade through the resort streets led by the City Sightseeing Torino bus, that ended in Fraiteve square, where the highly anticipated prizegiving ceremony and the drawing with great prizes up for grabs took place. The top 10 in each alpine skiing category and the top 5 in each cross-country skiing category were awarded the traditional cup and the customized Rossignol wind stopper. But even more difficult was winning the customised Bollé helmet, that went to the winner in each alpine skiing category and the Bollé glasses that went to the winners in each cross-country skiing category. Many the prizes up for grabs: a gorgeous journey, a scooter and then tablets, smartphones, TVs, digital subscriptions to the newspaper La Stampa, skateboards, GoPro, skis, boots, sunglasses, sportswear, snow weeks...
For the third consecutive year the Ski Club Sansicario Cesana won the alpine skiing 36th trophy Uovo D’Oro Audi with a score of 538, thank to the points obtained by adding up the best finish of a girl and a boy in each category. Excellent placing for the Ski club Golden Team Ceccarelli with 496 points, followed by the Ski club Sestriere with 449. In addition to the classic trophy, the wining Ski Club celebrated the victory with the Balocco giant chocolate egg.
The coveted Audi trophy handed over by our national team athletes Matteo Marsaglia and Giovanni Borsotti to the winners, who opened up the best lead on the second place went to Michelotti Maria Sole from the Ski club Sansicario Cesana, category Allievi, with a lead of 1’’25, and to Rigamonti Leonardo, from the Ski Club Sansicario Cesana as well, category Ragazzi, with a lead of one second.
The Uovo d’Oro Audi trophy for Nordic skiing went to the Ski club Entraque Alpi Marittime that scored 650 pont. On the second podium step, the Ski Club Valle Stura with 545 points, which left behind the Ski Club Sestriere that scored 374.
