It is time again for the CartonRapid Race. The coming week-end, July 2nd, hundreds of rough-an-ready boats will compete in the water of the Dora creek.
The CartonRapid Race is a bizarre amateur river race, unique in Italy for its features and for sure the first in the world of its kind, included within a big promotional and aggregative sport event, a meeting occasion for an exclusive party on the river.
Saturday and Sunday also many side entertaining and promotional activities will offer the setting for the race.
The race is a test for sporting, artistic and building abilities, as the competitors will have first to build their boat (canoe, kayak, raft) on the spot, using only cardboard and a fixed amount of adhesive tape, and then engage in the timed descent down the river in soft rough waters.
Classify this race as extreme is like saying that rafting, kayaking, canoeing, etc. are extreme sports. There is a lot of confusion on the subject... For sure using cardboard to build a boat to go down a stretch of river is undoubtedly a situation taken to its extreme, as cardboard is not the most suitable material, nevertheless...
