38th UOVO D’ORO AUDI TROPHY AT THE SCI CLUB SESTRIERE
From the World Cup slopes, even Francesca and Matteo Marsaglia were there
The 38th edition of the Uovo d’Oro Audi (Audi Golden Egg) has offered a beautiful anticipation of the Easter atmosphere to the 1374 young skiers that came to Colle del Sestriere on Sunday March 31st to battle for the prestigious trophy organized by the Sporting Club Sestrieres.
There were 62 ski clubs at the starting gate from all over Italy and even abroad, featuring representatives from France, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
The young skiers lived an emotion-packed day: it started with a rendezvous with Francesca and Matteo Marsaglia, who came back to their home snow from the Ski World Cup slopes to give the right boost and healthy motivation to the little champions competing. The Marsaglia brothers and young prospect Lucrezia Lorenzi virtually groomed the snow for the event, then stayed with the kids and were available, like always, for photos and to sign autographs.
At the end of the race – in the immense finish area where the 5 giant slalom courses merged – all participants were given a traditional chocolate egg and a goody bag full of gadgets, then the celebrations continued among the stands of the sponsor village.
In the afternoon the joyful parade of all the ski clubs was held along the town streets. It was introduced, to the sound of music, by the Grugliasco (Turin) flag-throwers and – in a context of great expectations – the bountiful award ceremony took place, along with a draw of fantastic prizes for athletes, coaches, and clubs.
For the second consecutive year, Sci Club Sestriere won the 38th Uovo d’Oro Audi trophy, recording a score of 475 thanks to the points calculated by summing the best positions by a girl and a boy in each category (excluding the Super Baby category). The runner-up, with only a handful of points less, was Golden Team Ceccarelli, scoring 468 points, followed by Sci Club Sauze d’Oulx with 375. As well as the classic trophy, the top ski club had the chance to celebrate its victory by enjoying the giant chocolate egg.
Along with the trophies, the top 3 ski clubs were also awarded free stays at the Hotel Petit Palais in Breuil Cervinia (Aosta) for summer training on the glacier.
As well as the traditional cup and the goody bag full of fantastic gifts, the top 10 athletes were rewarded with a Rossignol windstopper jacket, customized for the event. The top 3 athletes racing in the Cuccioli, Baby, and Super Baby categories won a free entrance ticket to Leolandia amusement park. Finally, the winner of each category won a Bollé helmet made specifically for the 38th Uovo d’Oro Audi event.
The sought-after Audi Trophy, a faithful replica of the crystal World Cup trophy, was presented by Francesca Marsaglia and Matthieu Bailet – a member of the French national team - to the female and male winner with the largest margin over the respective runners-up: Alice Casetta, of Sci Club Claviere, in the Baby category, won the trophy thanks to a 2”02 advantage; Yuri Colturi, of Golden Team Ceccarelli, in Super Baby category, won it thanks to a 2”10 advantage.
Other prizes drawn included: an incredible 1-week trip offered by Sestrieres SpA, four stays at the Allegroitalia Pisa Tower Plaza, a tablet, cameras, TVs, drones, bicycles, fuel vouchers, Vergnano coffee machines, autographed Juventus FC and Torino FC jerseys and footballs, skis, boots, goggles, sportswear, and many more beautiful gifts!
