Two days of very high level skiing, that have been a success for Sestriere and the pink avalanche. The triumph of Federica Brignone in the GS and the third place of Marta Bassino in the PGS have been the icing on the cake of this week end of races on the Kandahar Giovanni Alberto Agnelli course. Very impressive he number of people that crowded the arrival area and the VIP Tribune, some 30.000 in 48 hours, kissed by the rays of the sun and absolutely not scared by the chilling temperature.
The athletes complimented the course, already praised after Saturday’s competitions, also in its “short” version for the Parallel. “I am very satisfied of what we’ve done and what we achieved. It’s a huge success, that never happened before at Sestriere. We’ve been lucky, but we earned it for the hard work on Firday night to clean out those 40 centimetres of fresh snow from the course. I thank everyone who made this event possible”: this is the comment of Mr Gualtiero Brasso, President of the Organizing Committee.
DIREZ HAPPY Clara Direz, who won the first edition of the PGS, is more than happy: “It’s incredible, I didn’t expect it -says the French skier- it’s the first Parallel ever, everything is so coll and you know what? I enjoy the moment. The Parallel is nice to watch but hard to run. No I’m more confident, I know I can take more risks”.
MOERZINGER ELATED “It’s my first podium in World Cup, this emotion stuns me. I just focused on myself I push to the limit and, honestly, I don’t know what to say more. Until now I only won in the Europe’s Cup. It’s a good result also for the team” said Elisa Moerzinger from Austria, from the second step of the podium.
BASSINO JOYFUL The Italian athlete finished third after defeating Federica Brignone and spreads joy: “I was a bit sad for yesterday’s result but I turned the page and started all over. I tried my best in every run, I pushed very hard also against Federica because I knew that was the only way to beat her. It was fun, I’m so happy I made it. It’s good to run at home, people were great. I’m so glad I reached the podium here in piedmont, my home”.
ARU GUEST Fabio Aru, the cycling champion, was here too to watch the race: he’s at home in Sestriere. It was the first time ever for him: “usually I come here to train in summer, I never watched a ski race live. I must tell that it thrilled me. And congratulations to Mara for her third place”.
