On Sunday, Jan. 19th the athletes of the Audi Fis Ski World Cup will compete for the first time in the Women’s Parallel Giant Slalom on the Kandahar G.A. Agnelli course in Sestriere. A thrilling competition since the qualifications; the ranking to access the final phase will result from the sum of the timing on the two courses (red and blue). From the eight final on, it will be a head-to-head: with a draw, the athletes will be assigned a course where they will make only one race with direct elimination, included the final race for the first and second rank.
For this reason the setting, the characteristics of the terrain and of the snow of the two courses must be as equal as possible. “We decided to take advantage of a professional GPS - explains Mr Gualtiero Brasso, President of the Organizing Committee - to set two perfectly symmetrical courses. We will set the first Giant and we will measure with the GPS the exact locations of the poles. With a professional system, these locations will be reproduced at a distance of 9 meters so as to place the poles of the twin course with a maximum difference of 5 cm on the whole track”.
To comply with the regulation, the number of gates must be between 20 and 30 (excluded the departure and arrival ones) and the timing of every race should range between 20 and 25 seconds. A sprint race, to face at full speed!
