Respect for the environment and the mountains is the first, fundamental rule that allows us all to enjoy the various opportunities that nature makes available to us. Every day at Vialattea reminds us that we must maximise our efforts for a more sustainable future.
For years, our focus has been on the continuous search for environmentally sustainable solutions. During the development of new projects, from the very first feasibility assessments, required, moreover, by the regulations in force, we have sought to favour solutions that minimise negative impacts and enhance positive impacts. We have adopted measures to limit possible impacts both during the construction phase and in the subsequent management and operational phase.
For example, environmental compensation and mitigation has enabled the optimisation of the incorporation of new projects in the territory and environment, with the aim, in part, of rebalancing any imbalances caused in the environment. Reforestation and naturalistic engineering works featuring the use of biological and ecological materials have guaranteed high environmental compatibility and a reasonable degree of biodiversity.
We preserve the environment by using only energy produced from renewable sources such as water, sun, wind and the earth’s heat, certified by the “guarantees of origin” system of the energy services manager, according to the ec directive 2009/28/CE. Thanks to this type of supply, the related inputs are “zero” impact, effectively reducing the emission of about 2,800 tons of Co2 into the atmosphere per year.
We embarked upon the renovation of the snowmaking system as early as 2020. During the development of the system, we focused mainly on snowmaking on the Borgata slopes. In 2023 the project took on a broader connotation with the approval of a renovation plan for almost the entire snowmaking system in the Sestriere area, given its magnitude the project was divided into 4 phases to be implemented in the four-year period 2023-2026. We considered the management of water and energy resources and the containment of noise emissions to be fundamental. The new generators, with low air and water consumption and a high degree of control over energy consumption, enable flexibility of use by adapting to any type of slope, guaranteeing not only a high snow capacity and high snow quality, but also considerable savings in resources and a reduced environmental impact.
In May 2025, the company was once again entrusted with the management of the snowmaking systems serving the areas of Sansicario, Sauze d’Oulx and Claviere. At the beginning of the 2025-2026 season, an initial investment was made to strengthen the operational capacity of the snowmaking systems. The overall snowmaking network across the three areas extends for approximately 46.6 km of pipelines. The investment plan will start in summer 2026 and includes the renewal of about 20 km, focusing on the most obsolete sections
We all have to consciously do our part.
Do you already know what your ecological footprint is? By answering a few simple questions, you will discover that our impact on the world is more significant than you think, but also that a greener future is not impossible.
