DISCOVERING THE OLYMPIC SLOPES OF THE VIALATTEA WITH PIERO GROS

14 March 2026

Piero Gros, an alpine skiing champion born and competitively trained on the slopes of what is now the Vialattea ski area, was one of the leading figures of the “Valanga Azzurra.” He won the overall Alpine Ski World Cup and the Giant Slalom World Cup in 1974, and became Olympic champion in the Special Slalom at Innsbruck in 1976.

Fifty years after his Olympic gold medal, he returned to the slopes of his mountains, skiing down the Olympic runs of the Vialattea with his unmistakable style.

These are the slopes where the men’s and women’s alpine skiing medals were awarded during the XX Olympic Winter Games of Turin 2006, and which still today are a destination for “pilgrimages” by skiers attracted by the myth of spectacular courses, forming an integral part of the Vialattea ski area.

Three slopes are presented from a tourism perspective by Piero Gros: the Olimpica Fraiteve-Sansicario, the Kandahar-Nasi Banchetta and the Kandahar G.A. Agnelli of Sestriere.

Watch the videos of the descents narrated by Piero Gros, the pride of our mountains and a legend of alpine skiing.
