ITALIAN MEN’S GIANT SLALOM TITLE AWARDED TO GIOVANNI BORSOTTI

02 April 2026

From April 1 to 3, three days dedicated to the top names in skiing competing for the national title.

The Italian Absolute Championships continue on the slopes of Vialattea. After the opening day, which awarded the women’s Giant Slalom title to Anna Trocker, today, Thursday April 2 in Sestriere, it was time for the men’s Giant Slalom, held on the Kandahar Giovanni Alberto Agnelli slope, as always reserved for top-level sporting events.

The undisputed star of the day was Giovanni Borsotti. Already clearly in the lead after the first run, the Carabinieri athlete from Val di Susa secured the 2026 Italian Giant Slalom title with a margin of 0.26 seconds over Alex Vinatzer (Fiamme Gialle), who maintained second place after finishing runner-up in the first run. Third place went to Hannes Zingerle (Centro Sportivo Carabinieri), who climbed two positions in the final run, finishing 0.50 seconds behind.

Great satisfaction for Giovanni Borsotti, who stated at the end of the race:
“The slope was शानदार and the weather conditions helped us as well—it still feels like winter, like being in January. I also want to thank the Carabinieri, who allowed me to be here in what hasn’t been an easy year. It’s been a very positive day. This first gold medal in Giant Slalom comes at the age of 35—the journey has been difficult, but it was worth it.”

With today’s race, the 2026 edition of the Italian Absolute Championships is approaching its conclusion, once again confirming the central role of Sestriere and Vialattea in the alpine skiing scene. Perfectly snow-covered slopes, excellent organization, and the presence of Italy’s top athletes have made this event a key appointment for the entire skiing community.

The event will conclude tomorrow, Friday April 3, with the women’s and men’s Slalom races, the final competitions awarding the national titles. The first run will start at 8:30 am and the second at 12:00 pm.
