THE 34TH HISTORIC SKI RACE WILL TAKE PLACE IN SAUZE D'OULX

03 March 2026

In Sauze d’Oulx, on the slopes of the Via Lattea, everything is ready for the 34th Historic Ski Race. The event is scheduled for Saturday 7 March at 4:00 p.m. in the Clotes / Chalet Sincero area.

It will be a gathering of vintage skiers who will compete in a giant slalom using skis manufactured from the early 1900s up to no later than 1975.

The event is accompanied by an exhibition retracing the history of the Race through the posters (“affiches”) that promoted over thirty editions of this competition. The exhibition can be visited until 7 March at the Sauze d’Oulx Tourist Office, together with a dedicated catalogue entitled “1992–2026: The Posters of the Historic Ski Race.”

On the day of the Race, the exhibition will move to Chalet Sincero in the Clotes area of Sauze d’Oulx, where visitors will be able to admire equipment that belonged to pioneers and former champions: from early 1900s skis used by Paolo Bonini, friend and companion of Adolfo Kind (who introduced skiing to Italy in 1896), to 1930s skis belonging to Piero Ghiglione, and those of Carlo Schenone, a member of Italy’s national team in the 1950s.

There will also be a Gilera motorcycle won in a famous 1950s race in Sestriere, once owned by Hans Nobl, the “Archangel of the Snows,” a legend of the Colle. Visitors will also see skis that belonged to lawyer Gianni Agnelli (a special model made for him by Fischer), as well as the first stretch gabardine ski trousers produced by Niber, which supplied champions such as Zeno Colò, Vittorio Chierroni and many others.

The graphics featured on the posters recall Adolfo Kind climbing towards Sauze d’Oulx with skis over his shoulder, depicted in the posters of the 13th and 14th editions, as well as Carlo Mollino, the renowned architect and skier to whom the poster of the first Historic Ski Race was dedicated. Once again featured is the Austrian champion Hans Nobl, icon of Sestriere, portrayed by the well-known illustrator Mario Puppo in the poster of the 9th edition held in Sestriere in 1999, along with other great artists of classic advertising poster art, from Carlo Pellegrini to Franz Lenhart and others.

Through this authorial graphic art, the aim is to retrace, in a small yet noble way, the history of this sport in our mountains.

The event is organized by Amedeo Macagno, journalist and ski historian, with the technical collaboration of Scuola Sci Sauze Project.
