VIALATTEA & MONTGENÈVRE: A STRENGTHENED PARTNERSHIP

24 September 2025

The collaboration agreement between Sestrieres S.p.A. and the Régie des Remontées Mécaniques de Montgenèvre has been renewed. On 24 September, representatives from Vialattea, Bardonecchia Ski and Montgenèvre met in Claviere, together with the President of the Unione Montana Comuni Olimpici Via Lattea and local Mayors, to formalise the new agreement governing shared activities and commercial initiatives designed to promote the international product. The agreement spans five years to ensure greater stability and coherence for medium‑term projects and investments.

For Sestrieres S.p.A., President Giovanni Brasso and CEO Luisella Bourlot expressed their satisfaction with the understanding reached, while Nicola Bosticco, CEO of Colomion S.p.A., voiced his approval on behalf of Bardonecchia. For Montgenèvre, the Mayor Guy Hermitte, the Régie’s President Roger Rouaud, and General Director Daniel Garcin emphasised the importance of the Franco‑Italian collaboration. The President of the Unione Montana Comuni Olimpici Via Lattea, Mauro Meneguzzi, hosted the gathering.

The Vialattea International ski product is highly appreciated by guests who love to traverse the whole domain with skis on: over 400 km of skiable terrain, 70 ski‑lifts, across two countries. The merger of the Italian and French ski areas gives rise to Vialattea — one of the largest ski areas in the world — offering the unique experience of crossing borders while skiing.

Today marks almost fifty years of collaboration: back in the late 1970s a first agreement was signed between the Italian border resorts and Montgenèvre to market a single international ski pass.

The new agreement, while confirming the established cooperation, further expands the marketing synergies of the snow product in the region, now also including the Bardonecchia Ski area. This new involvement, which adds another 100 km of pistes, was made possible by the recent acquisition of the Bardonecchia ski area by iCON, the same fund that owns Sestrieres S.p.A.

“This renewed partnership identifies an alliance among multiple ski areas,” stressed Giovanni Brasso, President of Sestrieres S.p.A. “It spans various Italian Vialattea resorts, the French Montgenèvre, and now also Bardonecchia — a strategic union for the territory that allows us to present ourselves to international snow tourism markets with a product that is increasingly strong and competitive. I thank our French friends for the work that together we have carried out and for sharing with us this path of growth.”

“The renewal of the agreement between Sestrieres S.p.A. and the Régie des Remontées Mécaniques de Montgenèvre is the fruit of an exemplary collaboration lasting almost fifty years. It underlines the shared desire to continue working together for the development of our ski resorts in an increasingly competitive environment. This solid partnership is undeniably a strength as we face future challenges in our territory, including the 2030 Winter Olympics,” declared Roger Rouaud, President of the Régie Autonome des Remontées Mécaniques de Montgenèvre.

New benefits for customers. From this winter, holders of multi‑day ski passes (6 to 15 days) for Bardonecchia Ski, just like those of Vialattea, will be entitled to one day of skiing on the slopes of Montgenèvre. The initiative is reciprocal: holders of multi‑day Montiluna‑Montgenèvre passes will have two ski days in the Italian Vialattea sector and one in Bardonecchia.

As for Season Passes, the sale of the Vialattea International pass — valid across all Italian Vialattea resorts and French Montgenèvre — is confirmed. Additionally, the Vialattea‑Bardonecchia and Bardonecchia Season Passes will include 3 daily extensions on Montgenèvre. Similarly, the Montiluna‑Montgenèvre and Montgenèvre Season Passes also include 3 free daily extensions valid in Bardonecchia and 3 in Vialattea.

In the commercial realm, to emphasise the international dimension of the Vialattea area, a working plan has been established to share and coordinate specific promotional actions, with special attention given to initiatives aimed at ski clubs and groups.

The agreement also regulates all cross‑border piste and lift management activities. On the Italian side at Colletto Verde, through the Unione Montana dei Comuni Olimpici Via Lattea, works continue for the relocation of the Col Saurel chairlift — a project that will enable a high‑altitude direct link with France. Additionally, within the collaboration agreement framework, joint initiatives are under review for possible implementation during the French 2030 Winter Olympics, an event that will shine a spotlight on the entire area, as did the 2006 Turin Olympics.
