CESANA SANSICARIO CABLE CAR OPEN
The most important and long-lived traditional motorsport event in Vialattea is renewed. On July 6 and 7, the “Cesana-Sestriere”, an international uphill speed race for historic cars returns for its 42nd edition. The first edition dates back to 1961, included in the program of celebrations for the centenary of the Unification of Italy upon the proposal of the Automobile Club Torino, which has always directed the event together with the municipalities of Cesana Torinese and Sestriere.
In recent years, the famous race has been combined with the “Cesana-Sestriere Experience”, a sports parade and dynamic competition for historic cars. Vialattea is an official partner of the event besides providing its offices in Sestriere as the headquarters of the event, which is run along Provincial Road 23 that connects Cesana to Sestriere.
To ensure the connection between Cesana and Sansicario, the Sestrieres S.p.A. has scheduled the free opening of the Cesana Sansicario CABLE CAR during the closure period of Provincial Road 23 Cesana Sestriere. The lift will be open Saturday, July 6 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, July 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Here is the program for this two-day motorsport event valid for the European and Italian mountain championships. On Saturday 6 at 10:30 a.m. the parade of cars of the Cesana-Sestriere Experience will start from Cesana, arriving at Sestriere and entering Piazza Giovanni Agnelli where they will remain on display until the end of the morning. At 1 p.m., the two practice rounds of the Cesana-Sestriere race will begin and will last until late afternoon. Sunday, July 7, at 9 a.m. the second Experience run is scheduled while from 11 a.m. the Cesana-Sestriere race will start with a single heat that will determine the winners of the 2024 edition. The cars will enter the Parc hosted in Piazza Agnelli where, at 2:30 p.m., the final awards ceremony of the event will take place. To enable the smooth running of the event, Provincial Road 23 will be subject to temporary traffic closure. Vehicular traffic will be diverted to Provincial Road 215 via Sauze di Cesana.
