On Tuesday 19 February 2026, the ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone of the new Club Med took place in Cesana Torinese, in the hamlet of Sansicario, next to the ski slopes of the Vialattea area. More precisely, the resort will be located between the arrival station of the Cesana–Ski Lodge gondola lift and the departure station of the Ski Lodge–La Sellette chairlift.
A spectacular location at an altitude of 1,700 metres, offering a breathtaking view of Mount Chaberton. The resort is scheduled to open in December 2028 and will feature 500 rooms, accommodating up to 1,000 guests.
The response from the entire territory was remarkable, with strong participation from civil and military authorities as well as from the whole mountain supply chain, which demonstrated unity and cohesion in welcoming this new Club Med hospitality project. This development will effectively double Club Med’s presence in the Vialattea ski area, where it has already been operating for many years with the resort in Pragelato.
“The decision by Club Med to invest in Sansicario,” said Massimo Feira, President of Vialattea and among the guests at the ceremony, “is a strong and tangible signal that is destined to leave a lasting mark on the future of these mountains. It means believing in this territory, in its identity and beauty, but also in its ability to evolve and compete in the most advanced tourism markets. It is a choice rooted in sustainability and in a strong focus on people’s experience.
As President of Sestrieres S.p.A., I believe that this initiative is part of a broader vision involving the entire Vialattea ski area. Today, success does not come from a single project, but from the ability to work as a system. Success comes from cooperation between public and private sectors, between major operators and local communities, between those who invest and those who live here every day. For this reason, on behalf of Sestrieres S.p.A., I confirm our commitment to working responsibly and collaboratively so that this initiative can become a lasting value for the territory.”
Given that this is a territory deeply rooted in sport, particularly skiing, a special moment was dedicated to one of its greatest champions, Piero Gros. Invited on stage as an ambassador of these extraordinary mountains, he brought with him the gold medal he won 50 years ago at the Innsbruck Olympic Games. Piero explained that this medal was forged on these very mountains, the cradle of alpine skiing, and that it belongs to all those who believe in the potential of these places.
